Coldwell Banker Kansas City Loses the Online Buyer

Everywhere today there are signs of failure, countless articles on various ideas for motivation, reaching more customers or just staying in business. Along the same lines it is important to note where companies, marketers and salespeople have gone wrong even with the best intentions. Starting this online illustration off is a group of Coldwell Banker offices within a particular region who were sold the idea to 'turn off' all of their websites and individual online marketing to use only one website they could all share.

In terms of search engine marketing a website should be considered an online billboard where a single billboard is only capable of reaching a small target audience on a specific location of the road. If buyers drive home on the road your billboard happens to be located then you have the opportunity to present your message to those buyers. Anyone who drives home another way or lives in another part of town will never see the billboard nor will they ever have a chance to see your advertising. A website works much the same way in that a single website will never rank very well or be listed very high in a wide range of buyer search results.

Search Engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc.) rank websites higher or lower based upon the content, traffic, number of links and related websites and even website locations. Thus a single website will never be 'everything to every search engine' and will never rank highly for more than a few specific search terms or keywords. With Coldwell Banker offices abandoning ten (10) individual websites for the local offices that previously contained specific information for each region or area to all share a single template website the local offices lost the ability to prospective reach home buyers, sellers and relocation customers on search engines. The intention may have been to share resources or lower marketing costs but the result was a loss of 90% of their potential online reach within all search engines.

One of the specific Coldwell Banker offices hosted the website at our website hosting facility with an average monthly Unique Users (unique visitors or prospective clients) of 4,400 and 882 active home buyers who had created accounts within the website to search for or save homes for sale in the local market. The monthly investment to maintain the website was $150 which equates to 3 cents per unique user (potential customer) per month before considering the 882 active buyers who created an account on the website.

The website was ranked # 1 on Google and Yahoo for specific search terms pertinent to the locations of offices such as 'Coldwell Banker Overland Park' or 'Coldwell Banker Kansas City' branding the company to thousands of home buyers and sellers every month (important to note there are several Coldwell Banker offices in the area but this website showed up #1). The website was turned off, all 882 active customers with home search accounts on the website were kicked off without notice and the website is no longer ranked on any search engine within the first two pages.

Somewhere along the way a salesperson from a website design company sold a local Coldwell Banker Relocation office on the idea that they should design a single website for all of the local offices to share. Maybe the idea was to save money, maybe they wanted to try and compete with Reece and Nichols who typically has 50% of the local market listings and uses one website or maybe it was just so the relocation company could get a fee for every single home sold by any local Coldwell Banker office. Whatever the reason was the local Coldwell Banker offices lost a tremendous opportunity to reach more customers through their individual websites (online billboards) and proved there is more than one way to lose business in a tough market.

Social Media Tools for Easy Online Marketing

Some of the best places to market today are FREE, more classified ads are placed daily on Craigslist.com than any other website except Ebay (who happened to buy Craigslist) while there are dozens of other similar websites used for online ads. Most users simply post an ad online using the basic ad creation tools built into each classified ad website causing the ads to blend in with others easily. A way to augment your online ads is to create a 'webpage' using HTML and external image hosting yet this requires some level of website design skill, the software and time to develop the ad; most people will not take the time to do this.

Another solution is to use the excellent online tools, What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) HTML Editors that create the webpage for you through a few basic steps. One such website is vFlyer www.vflyer.com enabling customized online ad creation for Real Estate, Rental/Leasing, Automotive/Cars and Marketing Companies. Setup of an account and basic flyers is FREE with a small paid subscription service available for those who post multiple ads each month.

Another online website with FREE social media marketing tools is Easy Auto Sales www.EasyAutoSales.com specifically setup for for automotive ad creation, classifieds and posting. The Easy Auto Sales website incorporates unique tools such as Facebook integration, history of buyer/seller ads, creation of custom HTML for posting the ad on other websites and direct feeds to many search engines showcasing any auto posted within the website to buyers on Yahoo and Google FREE of charge. Functionality includes online community forums of automotive questions, car clubs and vehicle research.

Last but not least is the Postlets Classified Ad Creation and Marketing website www.Postlets.com primarily focused on real estate ad creation while incorporating tools for cars and trucks as well. The unique feature of Postlets is that the ads created are marketed directly to all of the following top social media websites for FREE once the ad is completed:

craigslist
craigslist
Facebook

Frontdoor
FrontDoor
Google Base
Google Base
HotPads

MySpace

Oodle

Trulia

The basic Postlets account is FREE enabling full access to the website, ad creation and basic marketing tools. Enhanced options create a complete website for online ads with enhanced marketing for each of the individual posts at a nominal charge of $5 for one, $40 for 10 or $75 for 25 ads including the website and marketing. That equates to $3 per ad at the bulk rate which is much less expensive than newspapers or other online paid advertising websites.

Back to the Basics...Sales & Marketing First

The past week has been spent speaking with marketing directors, sales managers and consultants about their Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, ActiveRain and other online social networking accounts. One sales manager shared and email from marketing firm outlining a several month long marketing campaign done by creating a fake person on Facebook intended on tricking buyers into coming to see homes for sale. The email shared that several people had agreed to be be Facebook friends with the fake person and even attended a party at a new urban condo unit. There was no information on how people reacted when they found out they had been tricked into visiting the community by a salesperson though the email did share say the marketing had lots of buzz until it was shut down by Facebook for violating terms of use and creating fake accounts. Are legitimate marketing professionals now Twittering for customers or spending months on fake online profiles creating fake people to trick buyers into viewing their products or location?

Would someone who was tricked into visiting a home by a fake person on a fake online account be the best prospective buyer? What ever happened to generating leads and sales through marketing? What happened to connecting with buyers through legitimate methods such as a well developed and search engine optimized website or effective targeted email marketing followed by personal calls to prospects to help generate interest. There are home buyers out there and the majority of buyers are using the Internet to search for homes, legitimate buyers are looking for a home for the best price not trying to be entertained or invited to a party. Multiple opportunities to reach buyers and share a message is good though quite a few marketing firms seem to be focusing efforts on random items online tools or Tweets while forgetting the basics of Sales and Marketing!

Build a better website, buy online advertising to put yourself in front of prospective buyers where they are looking then focus efforts on Twittering and creating online areas to chat with someone in hopes they may buy something. Back to the basics, the basics changed moving away from newspaper and print ads to the Internet Super Highway where you can reach more buyers and sell more...if the basics are done properly.

It's Hard to Go Back on Poor Online Marketing Decisions

In traditional marketing a bad decision about an ad layout lasts only as long as the current issue. When it comes to the Internet a poor decision or uneducated choice can have lasting implications on success of a business. Something placed on the Internet is easily found years later, even if it was deleted or only online for a short time. Conversely something found online today may not be easily found tomorrow if the wrong decisions are made or a disreputable online marketing company is used.

Any true online marketing expert understands the value and importance of 'link weight' pertaining to website visits from potential buyers and how a search engine ranks a website The higher the ranking by a search engine the more times a website will be seen and visited by potential customers and conversely if a website is not ranked well it will never be viewed or visited by potential buyers. Google has published the fact that a primary website ranking algorithm for ranking websites is how many other websites link to a website and what the value of those websites is. This was best illustrated in the 2004 Presidential Election where Democrats placed links to the George Bush profile on thousands of websites with the term 'miserable failure' resulting in George Bush being the 1st item shown on Google when users searched for 'miserable failure'. If a website has dozens of other highly valued websites linking TO it then Google considers that website of higher value and ranks the website higher in search results.

The same works in reverse meaning that a website with several highly ranked websites linking TO it will be perceived as lower value if those other websites no longer link to the website. Search Engines often consider this in terms of companies going out of business or offering less valued or less important services. When a Search Engine tracks links moving from one website to others the link weight is lowered for the negative links being moved away thus lowering the ranking and reach of the website. The result of this is much lower traffic often resulting in less leads and lower sales instantly without a simple solution to repair. An unfortunate example of this was a website Builder Consulting built for a Tulsa home builder that went from less than 400 users per month to over 4,000 monthly user visits (potential buyers visiting the website).

When the company hired a new marketing manager she decided to cancel all online marketing and move the website to a new website company she liked with disastrous results. Builder Consulting had steadily increased the website traffic to an average of 2,200 unique users (buyrs) visiting per month. After the new marketing director changed the website to a new website company the website had a 92.08% decrease in unque buyer visits in less than one month to a low of 161 visitors to the website; less than it had ever been in more than a decade. The significant changes made to the online marketing led to a catastrophic result for the customer in less than one month that will not easily be resolved with several months effort.

There may be another change in marketing ahead when the owner of the company finds out his website is down 92.08% simply because of a poor choice made that caused the company to lose 92% of potential client visits to the website in less than 30 days. Little things have a large affect online, watch out for anyone promising unrealistic results or unquantifiable actions since there are far more bad online marketers than there are good ones.

Netextinct - Business, Services & Items the Internet is making extinct

Netextinct –adjective
1. no longer in existence; that has ended or died out: travel agencies are quickly becoming netextinct.
2. no longer in use; obsolete: a netextinct business
3. having ceased operations; no longer active: an extinct business due to the Internet

The Internet provides millions of people instant access to information, products, services, friends and constantly evolves as a child coming of age. With the apparent benefits there have been those affected by netextinction replacing their business model or service with the click of a mouse. Consider when was the last time you called a travel agency to book an airline ticket? Online classified ads are up 500% while newspapers fail or close their doors daily. Car dealerships now accept that most buyers have researched prices, makes, models and know more about the vehicle they want to purchase (due to the Internet) than the salespeople making the classic 'used car salesperson' obsolete.

These businesses have become netextinct; victims of the ecommerce (another word that never existed before the Internet). What other businesses or services would you consider to be netextinct or in process of netextinction?

Tweeting for Business, Other Social Media Marketing

There has been a tremendous amount of hype the past few months about social networking, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn.com and dozens of other websites designed to connect socially.  One primary item lacking is a Return on Investment (ROI) analysis to determine if the social marketing is a fad or truly valuable to a business.  In terms of the messages being shared they range from "I am selling something" or "I am writing an agreement" to perfectly valid news and information about business, websites, marketing and life.

Next there are the groups of people working together who all connect with you and share the SAME message at the same time bombarding people with an endless ongoing stream of Tweets and Facebook updates and annoyances.  The people and companies using social media marketing to just throw anything up and hope it helps are doomed to fail.  Nobody wants to be sent the same message from 10 different people within 20 seconds; never have your entire company or marketing agency send the same message out within any short time.  If there is a valid observation, business idea, success story (not that you are writing a contract, that is narcissistic and not going to impress anyone) then be sure to Tweet away.

Consider posting ideas that improve the lives or business for customers and friends.  If you have a business and personal account try to keep them somewhat separate; it is ok to be friends with clients but not ok to bombard either with inappropriate photos or messages.  A friend in the computer industry recently published his Facebook profile and connected with numerous clients and new prospects online only to realize later he has place 'I LIKE BEER AND WOMEN' as the only interest listed in his profile.  It was an oversight where he was being sarcastic rushing through the profile setup but it came across as unprofessional, he changed it.

No Matter What...restrain the urge to post or publish junk or useless information or things that do not apply to your target audience or company just because you have nothing else to share.  There are days that need no social media marketing, it is better to share pertinent interesting information that people will read than to just post something to say you did.  Twitter is great for entertainment and shopping, there are MILLIONS of people following actors and public figures who share all types of random thoughts from bathroom breaks to drinking coffee that some people apparently find interesting.  Rather than posting similar items without any potential for ROI consider linking social networking accounts so they all update at the same time.

Cross linking the accounts permits the sharing of valid interesting information (and some junk, we all do it) without spending every day logging into dozens of websites trying to remember username or password hoping someone might find what you shared worth reading.  Since I setup and began to actively post valid information I have had two new legitimate (paying) business customers come from Facebook.  Checking the hundreds of followers on Twitter I noticed most of my x-girlfriends, a few people I fired, some other local website companies hoping they might learn how to get a website listed on search engines and dozens of other people I am sure will become stalkers in the near future...no paying customers yet but what the heck it's free!

Internet Marketing Resources You Can't Live Without

In today's post I wanted to provide some insight into the information sources I use on a regular basis to stay on top of what's happening in Internet marketing.

I often get questions from my associates and like minded individuals in search of reliable information. There are a few resources that I like to use on a regular basis and describe each of them in this post.

If you want to stay on top of all aspects of online marketing, a good way to do so is via targeted media. The online marketing industry, specifically Internet marketing and Search Engine optimization have a variety of resources that can give you timely information. Some of my favorite are:

Media

Webmaster Radio

Webmaster Radio is an Internet-based radio station that has really good programming that covers Pay Per Click maketing, to affiliate programs, to search engine optimization. Shows are hosted by experts in each niche like Danny Sullivan who covers search news to other 'big names' across the industry. A great feature is that you can listen throughout your day or simply download the podcasts for later listening on your ipod or listening device.

WebProNews

Wow... they have a lot of information and some great column writers that you are going to want to learn more about. WebProNews provides timely information on virtually every event. They have reporters writing constantly and have other scoring SEO blogs and other news sources, compiling the information in one place for easy access. They also have great articles by third-party writers and a very active readership that is proactive in their commenting. Definitely near the top of my go-to list when I'm looking for news and current feedback.

Search Engine Watch

When it comes to search, Search Engine Watch has been around since the beginning. SEW provides everything from search related articles to updated news stories related to what's going on in search. Be sure to visit and bookmark this site.

Blogs

As with many industries - blogs are a great way to keep informed on the latest goings-on in the SEO realm. The trick, however, is figuring out which blogs are worth reading and which authors are truly knowledgeable. Over the years I've read many blogs and to be honest - I still do. Below are some of the key blogs I reference on a regular basis.

The Marketing Blog

If you're reading this post than obviously you've found The Marketing Blog. Although I have experience with everything from Advertising to Trade Shows, my passion is Internet marketing. Here you'll find all you need to know about Internet marketing, SEO, PPC, and much more.

Matt Cutts Blog

If you haven't heard of Matt, you will. He's one of the most outspoken Google associates - attending SEO conferences and speaking about the Google Algorithm. Officially, Matt Cutts is the head of Google's Webspam team. His blog covers Google, technology, and some personal posts. Even though he doesn't give away the farm, Matt does reveal some great insights into Google search.

SEOmoz Blog

SEO expert Rand Fishkin provide research, news and SEO tips on a regular basis. From op-eds to SEO whitepapers the SEOmoz Blog provides useful information and even has a great feature called Whiteboard Friday's where you can get some great SEO advice.

Forums

Forums are a great place to tap into industry experts and get questions answered quickly and easily. I was a little fearful of using forums in the past but have found them to be one of my most valuable assets for Internet marketing and SEO. The other great thing about forums is that once you build up expertise in a certain area, you can share what you know with those just starting out.

The Internet Marketing Forum

This forum is my latest project and is set to be released from Beta in the next 30 days. The beauty of this forum is that it was created by my marketing team in search of answers to their most difficult questions and from readers like you with questions and the need for expert advice. Registration costs nothing and gives you access to some of the best Marketing, Internet marketing, SEO, and PPC experts around. If you're not already an inaugural member, sign up today.

SEO Chat Forums

The SEO chat forums are really the most popular of SEO forums out there. Each covers a broad set of topics from Google to Social Media.

DigitalPoint Forums

DigitalPoint has been around for a while and again covers many of the same topics as found in the Internet marketing forum and SEO Chat Forums. Some users well known but overall the forum serves as a good place to ask questions and get them answered.

Newsletters & Other Resources

In addition to the above mentioned resources, other resources that are helpful in the area of SEO include:

Google Webmaster Tools And Guidelines

If you're not already familiar with Google Webmaster Tools and Guidelines, than I suggest you check it out. Not only are the webmaster tools essential for uploading your sitemap to Google and getting noticed, but the guidelines are helpful for knowing best practices.

High Rankings Newsletter

Not being a fan of newsletter in general, I rarely read them. However, I have found this newsletter to be helpful when trying to stay on top of changes in SEO and more importantly, accessing real case studies associated with Internet marketing. In short, it provides great advice and helps you stay on top of search marketing.

Conclusion
There are literally thousands of resources online for marketing, Internet marketing, and SEO. The resources I mention above are just a few that I use to stay on top of my game. The key is to always be on the lookout for new and valuable resources that you can learn from. Internet marketing is continually evolving - so should you.

A Lesson On Email Marketing And Purchase Behavior

I recently started focusing again on email to help me spread the word and ultimately take my marketing to the next level.  I was introduced to a concept by an industry leader many years ago that I want to share with all of you in today’s post.

The concept is called the “purchase decision process” and was taught to me by a leader in direct marketing.  Essentially the concept is simple, understand enough about your prospects buying behavior to map out the process they go through when making a purchase.  For example, where do your customers start the purchase process?  Research? Referrals? What happens next?

Email is a great way to learn about the purchase decision process of your niche as well as take advantage of it for the benefit of prospect and company.  What I mean is that if you can help consumers by laying out a process they are comfortable with and prefer, you will experience less resistance when attempting to make a sale.

Likewise, your prospect will actually enjoy the process of evaluating your offer and making a purchase.  This provides a win-win for both parties and can significantly influence conversion rates.  Some tips I can share with you are:

1.     Capture email information at the beginning of your online conversion process.  When individuals bail out of your funnel, auto send an email with an opportunity to contact you about their interrupted purchase and give them a way to easily return to where they left.

2.    Create a follow up communication plan that moves them through the purchase decision process one step at a time.  The follow up emails do not have to be numerous, just aligned to their purchase process.

3.    Test your creative, offers, purchase process communications, and so on.  Continually work to improve conversion rates.

If you think about the purchase decision process of your prospects, can you clearly identify each step?  If not, spend some time thinking about the process and how you can help consumers move through that process quickly.

Set up auto-responders that take advantage of your knowledge from the moment users abandon your site.  Capture email address up front in order to make this viable.  Follow these simple rules and you’ll see site conversions improve.

Customer Follow Up Is King!

Do you follow up with with your customers and affiliates on a regular basis?

Many companies do a poor job of communicating with customers and overlook one of their biggest sources of revenue. In fact, many companies believe that once a sale is made the follow up process should end. Unfortunately they are losing a significant opportunity to build additional customer satisfaction, establish better rapport, credibility, lower returns, and increase their knowledge of the user experience.

Follow up is for more than just prospects. In fact, following up with customers is just as important. Post purchase follow up is overlooked by many businesses but can be implemented easily. Consider applying a basic process that can benefit overall consumer satisfaction significantly. Your process may include:

- Training to teach a customer how to use a product.
- Answering commonly asked questions before they are asked.
- Teaching users about lesser known features.
- Providing support contact information.

Don’t stop with customers. Also reach out to your affiliates. This can improve relationships and prioritize your products over others being promoted. The reality is that in most affiliate or reseller programs over 90% of affiliates never do anything. By properly following up with new and existing affiliates you can help increase the percentage of those actively promoting your products and often see immediate results.

Here are some ideas to consider for engaging affiliates and improving outcomes:

- Provide promotional material.
- Teach effective promotional techniques.
- Share best practices from top affiliates.
- Product education.
- Reminders to get the affiliate to take action.
- Introduce contests and incentives.

Whether you are focusing on improving the communication with your customers or affiliates (or both), consider what you do as being directly tied to increased revenue. Too often companies focus all of their energy on prospecting and not enough on nurturing existing relationships.

Look at your customer communication program today and ask, “how can I better communicate to my customers to improve loyalty, develop relationships, and generate more sales?”

Free Traffic Exists If You Know Where To Look!

Many web site owners spend a lot of time building the next great application, web portal, or informational web site only to discover that creating a great site is only the first step.  A fantastic web site that doesn’t have any visitors holds no value.  So how do you generate traffic to your web site?  There are a variety of ways to generate traffic but some of the best are free.

In this week’s video, I’ll show you how to generate free traffic to your web site using traffic exchanges.  Top exchanges like Traffic Swarm  and EasyHits4U are free to join and can easily generate thousands of targeted visitors to your website.

Traffic exchanges are exactly what the name infers.  You are essentially exchanging traffic.  Here’s how they work.  You sign up for an account and “visit” other web sites.  Each time you view a web site or squeeze page, you earn credits.  These credits can be used for traffic.  After you earn a certain number of credits, your web pages are shown throughout the traffic exchange network.  Each time these pages are viewed by other members, you are charged a certain number of credits.

It may sound a bit confusing but actually it’s quite simple.  You browse web pages and other members browse yours.  The most productive way to utilize traffic exchanges is with the help of high converting squeeze pages.  If all you want to do is drive traffic, then you can easily set your web sites home page as your main display URL.  If on the other hand you are looking to build a list, develop powerful squeeze pages with an offer that encourages individuals to click through or sign up.

Over time you can generate a significant number of views for your web site or web page. Set your browsing page as your start page each time you open your browser.  This takes less than a few seconds to set up and can generate additional credits for you.  Most exchanges, including Traffic Swarm provide benefits for specific actions like loading your start page.

Premium versions are also available on traffic exchanges, allowing you to earn credits even faster.  Once you’ve begun using traffic exchanges, and see the type of traffic they are delivering, consider premium options.  The quality of traffic you receive can vary greatly from exchange to exchange so make sure you’re tracking properly and focus not just on traffic but on conversions are well.

There are tons of additional tools to help generate traffic to your web site at little or no cost.  I’ll cover additional tactics in the future but suggest that you start using traffic exchanges today to get visitors to your website.

How To Solve Your Most Difficult Marketing Questions

About a year or two ago I was sitting at my computer and started Google-ing to find an answer to a pretty difficult marketing question.

Essentially I was looking for someone out there who was facing the exact same Internet marketing issue and had a quick response.

After searching and searching, I found nothing. Because I'm so persistent, I took my search off line and started to tap into my network of marketing related colleagues, friends, and acquaintances. It took me quite a bit of time, but I got the answer I was looking for.

Then it dawned on me. Why wasn't it easier to find the answer I was looking for online? Surely someone somewhere must have asked the same question, engaged others, and shared their answer on a blog or web page! From that struggle, the Internet Marketing Forum, on my main web site MarketingScoop.com was born.

Earlier this year, I launched the forum to serve as a marketing community. As is the case with any marketing community, it's success is based on the interest of those who inhabit it to be there, engage, and interact with one another. Based on user feedback, I recently made investments in the forum to improve usability and cover additional topics for community members to share successes, failures, and experience.

I encourage each of you to get involved in the Internet Marketing Forum today. It costs nothing to join and will serve as a great resource for getting your most difficult marketing related questions answered. Please let me know what you think and how we can encourage others to learn about the forum. It is my goal to build a marketing community for us to learn, contribute, and grow.

The 30 Day Marketing Challenge

This may appear to be my most ridiculous Marketing Blog post of all time, but in just a few short minutes you'll discover how this Internet marketing challenge has everything to do with marketing and little if anything to do with how to get rid of abdominal fat.

A number of weeks ago I was doing a Webinar on how to drive traffic to your web site or blog for little or no money. After the webinar I received a number of marketing related questions via email from seminar participants. I was pleasantly surprise when Internet marketing legend and guru Greg Cesar connected with me. Greg is not only a marketing genius, but he's also a great guy.

We got to talking and Greg gave me a challenge that was too good to give up. He asked, "How quickly do you think you can get a web site ranked #1?" Without giving it much thought I responded, "..about 30 days". And from that simple question the 30 Day Challenge was born.

What This Has To Do With Getting Rid of Abdominal Fat

Okay, so when a guy like Greg challenges someone like me to a seemingly impossible task, you've got to be on your toes. And honestly, other than getting on an exercise machine, working out with an exercise ball, or doing some jogging, my knowledge of six pack abdominals is pretty limited. However, I decided to find an affiliate product to promote and work with over the next month or two and discovered the popular ebook called Truth About Abs.

After conducting some basic keyword research using the Google AdWords tool I landed on the keyword phrase,"get rid of abdominal fat." The keyword gets over 1,300 monthly searches and, believe it or not, the URL wasn't taken. I couldn't believe it either given the fact that exercise and abdominal information is very popular. I bought the domain and started the 30 day challenge to get the site ranked on top for my chosen keyword.

I'm in the process of documenting and recording all of the steps that I'm using to achieve my goal.  When finished, I plan to post the video here and show you step-by-step how I did the research, focused on the exercise niche, chose the abdominal product, selected the keyword phrase "get rid of abdominal fat", and optimized the site for search engines.  I

Now you can see that while the rest of the world is thinking about the holidays, I'm thinking about losing belly fat - I know, an odd thing. But I guess that's what makes marketers like me so strange. Happy holidays!

New Marketing In The Year 2010

This new year, I couldn't help but ask myself the question, "How is marketing going to be different this year?" I mean, every year pretty much starts out the same but something is bound to happen to jazz things up. Do not call lists, do not fax lists, Twitter. The reality is that anything can happen!

Here are just a few of my predictions for the new year. I probably should consult with the Popcorn report or something that is based on legitimate research, but here's what I think the new year will bring.

1. New social media. Marketers have been struggling to make social media work from a marketing perspective. Even if I have a thousand "Fans" or ten thousand "Followers", what does it really mean? Not only will marketers do a better job of utilizing social media to market their products, but I believe we'll see new innovation in this area as well.

2. Mobile marketing. The concept of mobile marketing has been around for a long time. But with last year's introduction of cell phones that have full browser capabilities, everyone is connected all the time. This spells opportunity in the area of mobile marketing and real time promotions. I'm not sure what it will look like by year's end but I do know that it will be a focus in 2010.

3. An emphasis on organic search. As Google becomes even more dominant (maybe the government will step in this year) and pay-per-click costs continue to escalate, companies will be spending more of their marketing dollars on organic search and proper web design. Having to depend on PPC marketing to generate revenue is still a key ingredient in everyone's marketing budget but so will search engine optimization.

4. Analytics are king. This year, even marketers who have resisted adopting the latest and greatest analytics will succumb. As a mentor once told me, "In God we trust, all others bring data." We have access to more information than ever before and with free analytic programs like Google Analytics, there's no longer an excuse for being unable to identify your best lead sources.

5. More for less. Consumers are going to continue wanting more for less. As a result, marketers must focus on perceived value. Although the tendency may be to discount early and often, creating lasting value is what consumers want and will respond to.

2010 is going to be a great ride. Just like last year, marketers will continue to evolve their methods and effectiveness. We have more tools at our disposal than ever before and the prospects for a happy new year look very, very good!

Pay Per Lead Affiliate Programs Are The Holy Grail For Beginners

Guest Post by Franck Silvestre

If you are trying to make money online for more than one month, I bet you already heard about affiliate marketing.

It's the fastest easiest way to get started online and make some real money.

What most beginners don't know is that you don't need to sell anything to make money with affiliate programs. You can make money when a website visitor perform an action like signing up for more information or downloading a toolbar or screensaver.

Those pay per lead programs are called Cost Per Action (CPA).

If you are new to CPA programs, let me show you how it works.

1. Getting started

There are two big schools of thought.

The first is that you should pick your market first, and then, pick a product that is proven to sell in this market.

The second school of thought says that you choose the product that people already buy first, and then, you promote it to hungry buyers in the market.

Personally, I do both, but if you are just getting started and didn't make your first sale yet, I suggest that you choose option two, because beginners generally struggle to find a niche.

2. Grabbing your CPA offer

This is a little bit more tricky than traditional pay per sale affiliate products (you are paid when someone actually buy the product you are promoting).

Let's say you want to start with Market Leverage.

With the CPA affiliate network like Market Leverage for example, you will need to go through an application process.

Most of the time, you will be asked how you will promote the offer, and they will also ask you for a website's url.

Just say that you are going to promote with seo. If you have the budget, you can also say PPC.

Once you sign up, an affiliate manager will contact you to see if you are a real person, and ask you a couple of questions to see if you qualify.

Don't worry. Here is a little known trick that will help you to be accepted in any affiliate network.

Please be honest. Don't tell your affiliate manager that you earn $2000.00 per month when you never made a dime online. Just tell the truth. Here is the twist what should get you in easily.

Just tell to your affiliate manager that you are brand new and that you never made a dime online, but that you are going to do whatever you can to make a lot of commissions every month for his network only.

You get it?

Here is why it works:

His role is to help you earn more. He is not doing this because he loves you, but the reason is that when you make money, the affiliate manager makes money. If you earn more, he earns more as well.

When you tell him that you are going to make money EXCLUSIVELY for this network, he will think twice, and you'll have more chances to be approved if you are just getting started.

If you are not accepted (it happens sometimes), don't worry, you have two things to do:

1. Call again

Just call the affiliate manager after one week, and he will see that you are serious.

2. Go the the next CPA affiliate networks, there are dozens of them and you should get accepted when you apply what I teach.

The Top 10 Free Ways to Get Money Online

Finding a free way to make money online isn't easy and might take a lot of time. So, I put together 10 methods of making money online in this post to help you out. I have done research on these money making methods. They were legitimate and didn't cost you money to begin.

No. 10 - Paid Survey

You might already heard about paid survey if you have searched on the Internet for while. The Internet ads told you that you can make a living doing paid survey. So, is that really true? Well, the answer is of course no. The ad messages were exaggerated. But it's true that paid survey can potentially earn you extra cash in monthly basis.

How to begin?
It's simple. Just go to paid survey directory like Yellowsurveys.com and join as many market research companies listed in the directory as possible. There is also a list of companies that are listed under the 'Most Popular' in the Yellowsurveys.com directory. Make sure you join all the companies in the 'Most Popular' category.

The signing up process will take you hours of time since you are going to join many companies. But once you've have completed all the sign up, your work is done. What you need to do next is wait for the paid survey invitation emails send to you by these companies. Not every company pays cash to participants who completed survey. Some companies offer vouchers (Amazon, etc), gift and products.

Who can join?
Anyone over 18 years in US and Canada. Most companies welcome any country but the paid survey invitations are often fit for US and Canada residents only.

Patience is needed
Paid survey isn't a way to get fast money. You would have got a few surveys for the first month and earning less than $10 in total. But, when time gets longer, you might start getting more surveys regularly. At that time, you might get about $30 to $100 per month in average.

No. 9 - Reviewing Products and Services

The Internet users often want to search for supporting information before they purchase a product or a service to make sure they are making wise purchasing decision. They will go to the shopping information sites to find the supporting product information and advice.

The shopping information sites will help these Internet users by providing reviews written by those people who already tried the products or services. These product reviews are real and useful for the Internet users to make the right choice. So, the shopping info sites would hope to publish new reviews constantly. And therefore, the shopping info sites are inviting anyone to submit honest and straight forward review on the product or service they've used or tried. For each review that the shopping information site approved, the submitter will be paid.

You don't have to be a professional writer to write review. Writing product review is about sharing your experience and opinions about the product you have used. Just be straight forward and tell the truth will do.

Sites that pay for product review:

ReviewStream.com - Pay $2 per product review. But the review rate might change anytime. No registration needed to submit review. You'll earn also for each time a reader vote on your review. $0.10 per vote.

Sharedreviews.com - You'll need to register to create a profile in Shared Reviews. Then you can start review anything you like. Once you have written and published your reviews, they will be read and voted by your friends in the Shared Reviews community. Your review will be ranked based on votes and traffic. The more votes and traffic to your review, the higher your rank and the higher your earning would probably be.

SoftwareJudge.com - The site publishes reviews about software and online games. If you have something to say about a software or a game you have tried, you can share your opinion in Softwarejudge. The pay is between $1 to $50 per approved review depending on the quality.

No. 8 - Sharing Photos and Pictures

If you are passionate about photography, then you can turn your hobby into cash. Break.com was all the while paying users for uploading pictures that get featured on their picture gallery. You'll be paid $50 for each photo that Break chose to feature in their picture gallery.

How to begin?
Only registered members of Break can upload photo. Registration is free and can be done at this page. Once you have signed up, you can start uploading your photos.

You may take a look at Break Gallery first to see what sorts of pictures and photos that Breaks like to feature before uploading your photos. This will give you an idea of what photos have a better chance to be featured. Amazing, interesting or funny pictures are often good for getting featured in Break Gallery.

Some rules to keep in mind are that the picture that you upload must be original (not copying from other site) and you have the sole ownership to it. Otherwise, you wouldn't be paid even though your pictured got featured.

Another way to make money with your photos is by selling them in the stock photography sites such as IstockPhoto and Shutterstock. The webmasters, magazine editors, web designers, graphic designers, bloggers and other people who involve in the publishing field are paying monthly subscription to the stock photography sites. They choose to use what pictures they like for their publishing. Every time they choose to use your picture, you'll earn a small fee. So, the more people use your pictures, the more you'll earn.

If you have good volume of pictures and images to submit constantly to IstockPhoto and ShutterStock; and a few others are BigStockPhoto, GittyImages, Fotoliaia, etc, you could be earning consistent income with your pictures.

No. 7 - Uploading Files

Have you heard of websites that allow Internet users to upload files and earn money every time their file is downloaded by someone? There were actually quite a lot of these file-sharing websites offering this service. But because the pay is too low that many people become not interested on them.

However, there is a file-sharing website which I recently come across worth mentioning. The site is called Share Cash. Share Cash offers the users who upload files $0.20 to $0.60 per download. That's $200 to $600 per 1,000 download. The pay rate is very much higher than most other file-sharing sites which usually offer only $1 to $3 per thousand download. If you have interesting files to share with people on the Internet, why not share them through this site and earn more cash for each download of your file.

How to Begin?
You need to become a member of Share Cash to upload files. Registration is fast and easy. All you need to do is fill out the short form at http://sharecash.org/register.php and then you can proceed to upload your files.

To get good amount of download, you should upload something that many people will be interested to see. You'll want to share your file with as many Internet users as possible to maximize your earning. So, some marketing works are needed. You might try to post about it in related forums, invite your friends in social networking communities to download your file..... All these can add your download up and so as your earning. You can read more about tips of getting download at http://sharecash.org/tips.php.

Not every download earns
According to the users who have got paid, Share Cash is just looking for US and UK download. Users from other countries downloaded your file will most probably not counted for earning.

No. 6 – Freelancing

Nowadays, the Internet is full of freelance working opportunities. Most of these freelance job opportunities were posted on the freelance service websites by the companies and e-entrepreneurs who need help in their business.

The daily posted freelance job opportunities include web design, article writing, Internet marketing, programming, editing, online data entry, accounting, admin support, database management, graphic design and many more. So you can search through these freelance websites to find the freelance projects that you can work for and make some extra money.

How to Begin?
You may just start by becoming a freelancer (member) of Guru.com (a freelance service site). You'll be asked to create a profile to include your experience, education, skill, etc. Then you can access the Guru.com job board to search for the freelance works that are right for you and bid for them. They will be other freelancers bidding the same jobs as well. So, make sure you set your price lower and write your proposal well. Who to choose for the job is solely decided by the employer.

Who can join?
Anyone can become a freelancer regardless if you are living in Asia, Europe or US.

The alternative of Guru.com
If you find hard to get a job on Guru.com because of the tough competition there, you might try in Freelancefree.com and DigitalPoint Forum. Freelancecefree works the same way as Guru.com but the marketplace is smaller and so as the competition is lowers. Digital Point (DP) on the other hand is the largest webmaster forum. As a member of DP, you can post ads about your freelance services and also find freelance works that you're interested in the Buy, Sell or Trade section of the forum. There is also competition in DP forum, but getting works is easier.

No. 5 - AssociatedContent.com

The AssociatedContent (AC) is an established huge content network welcoming anyone to participate and contribute content on any topic.

AC has been rewarding content contributors constantly. They pay the members who submit articles in two ways:

1) Upfront Payment - A one time payment to the member for every article that the member submitted and get approved by AC. Usually $3 to $10 for each approved article. Only for US residents at the moment.

2) Performance Payment - It is the payment based on the traffic that your published articles received. The current rate AC offers is $1.50 per one thousand page views generated from your articles. This payment option works well with interesting articles that attract many readers.

This is an extra income opportunity for you if you like to write or have good writing skill.

How to begin?
It's simple to start publishing on AC. Just go to the AC Sign Up page, fill out the form, hit the 'sign up now' button and you are set to publish articles on any topic in AC.

To have a better chance for your articles to get accepted for upfront payment, you are suggested to write articles that wouldn’t lose value over time. How-to articles and guide on doing something are some of the good examples for upfront payment. And you should also do some researches on AC. Try to find topics that still haven't had many articles in them and then submit articles on these topics. These articles are more likely to get accepted for upfront payment.

For performance payment option, it seems harder to earn money because you get only $1.50 for per one thousand views generated by your published articles. But there is a strategy you can use to take advantage on the pay per thousand option. The strategy is keep submitting articles to AC to build up a large collection of articles of yours. Many of your articles will soon attract traffic and from time to time you articles might build up good traffic and earn you passive income of $20 to $50 each month.

No. 4 - Writing and Selling Article Pack

In Associated Content, only US residents get paid right away for approved articles. International members can only submit articles for performance payment which pay $1.50 per thousand page views of your articles.

But in Digital Point Forum, everyone has the same opportunity to make money with articles. As mentioned before, Digital Point is the largest webmaster forum with massive traffic gained. The forum has established a marketplace for people to buy and sell articles. The written articles were often made into a pack of 5 or 10 articles and posted for sales on Digital Point Marketplace at one price. There are quite a lot of buyers purchasing article pack in the forum. This is a marketplace ideal for you to sell your articles.

You don't need to be a pro-writer but you do need some writing skill to do this little business. The process is simple. You first create 5 to 10 articles on a topic, post an ad on the marketplace about it and wait for the potential buyers to contact you via private message of the forum.

Make sure you have a PayPal account to accept payment.

How to begin?
Visit http://forums.digitalpoint.com/register.php to join as a member of the forum. Then start reading the topics and threads that you're interested and post your replies. You need to reach 25 posts and at least 14 days of joining DP before you can post ad on the DP marketplace.

What articles sell often?

I noticed in the DP that the topics like Wordpress, make money online, affiliate marketing, social media marketing are selling quite well. You may start creating 5 articles in one of the topics to test sell in DP. But these are just some of the good demand topics I noticed, you might do some researches in DP to find more profitable topics that you can write for.

Certain simple rules you must keep in mind is that your article must be unique (not published anywhere before) and can only sell once - to one buyer only.

How to write the ad
It's not difficult. You can just refer the existing ads and get an idea on what you should put in. There are only ad title and ad description you need to write. Here's an example of the title"

'5 Wordpress Articles | 100% Unique | $15'

For the ad description, make sure you include the title of each articles and the length of each, the price of the article pack and mention that they were all Copyscape Pass. Tell the viewers to send 'private message' to you if they're interested.

What price to set
The price needs to be low in DP. People like to buy in DP because there were good deals they can find. For a pack of 5 articles, you are suggested to set the price at $15 or lower. You might go for a little higher the price, but if you can't get your articles sold, then cut the price down.

No. 3 - Sell Your Used Stuff

When you want to sell something online, I'm sure you think of eBay. But, you need to pay a listing fee to sell your item on eBay. The listing charge is not refundable. If your item don't sell, you still pay the fee. It costs money to make money in eBay.

However, it's different when you sell in other auction sites such as eBid and Atoncer. Both of the auction sites don't charge listing fee, meaning anything that you list for sale is free. The sites only charge you a 'final value fee' when you've sold an item.

The marketplace of eBid and Atoncer aren't big as eBay but they are quite popular on the Internet as well. Any old or used stuff in your home that you find you can sell, try listing them for sale in eBid and Atoncer. If you’ve sold something successfully, you will make profit. But if your item doesn't sell, you have nothing to lose and you can list again.

Other than free auction sites, Craiglist is another excellent online marketplace to sell your used stuff. Craiglist is a classified ad site that anyone can take advantage on. There is no cost to post ad in Craiglist except you are posting ad into the job category. The great thing about Craiglist is that it divides the ads by city or region, making it easier to find buyers in your town.

Generating sales through Craiglist is certainly possible. And you can always re-list your ad when your previous ad is getting older. But remember to always include picture when you list any item for sale in Craiglist and also in the auction sites. Adding product picture has proven to be effective for increasing responses dramatically.

Oh.. There is one more marketplace I almost forgot to mention. It's the famous Amazon. Like eBid and Atoncer, Amazon doesn't charge listing fee but if you sell an item, they will take a percentage of it.

Your used cell phone can bring you fast cash if you are in US
If you often change cell phone and keep a number of outdated phones over time, don't throw them away. Online company like Cell for Cash wants you old cell phones. You'll get money for sending (free shipping) your old cell phone to Cell for Cash.

The cash value of phones range from few dollars to over one hundred dollars, depending on your phone model, capabilities and demand.

You can right away exchange your cell phone for cash by completing three easy steps in CellforCash.com:

1) Choose your phone model in the list
2) Submit details about your phone manufacturer and model
3) Ship your phone and get cash within 45 to 60 days.
